On 23 May 2026, an event of didactic and participatory character entitled “Ferla: ideas, nature and people – A journey between sustainability and community” took place in Ferla, at Piazza Aldo Moro, organized in synergy among the European projects URWAN, CARDIMED (Demo 4.1 – 4.2) and NICE, with the involvement of strategic partners such as SVIMED and IRIDRA. The event represented an opportunity for dissemination and awareness-raising on good practices of urban regeneration and Nature-Based Solutions implemented in the territory of the Sicilian municipality.
The day was structured through a didactic pathway dedicated to the Einaudi school of Syracuse, during which a visit to the green wall and co-design workshops were conducted with the scientific support of Vincenzo Scavera and Tatiana Rizzo from the University of Catania, focused on the explanation of water monitoring of the green wall. In the afternoon, itinerant laboratories and recreational activities dedicated to sustainability were launched, including a sustainable treasure hunt and thematic corners dedicated to environmental education. The exhibition opening session at 4:30 PM illustrated the good practices of urban regeneration characterizing the territory of Ferla. The presentation of the results of the URWAN, CARDIMED and NICE projects was curated by prominent speakers, among them Michelangelo Giansiraqusa, Mayor of Ferla, Barbara Sarnari from SVIMED, Mark Cannata from Kassandra, and Emanuela Rita Giuffrida from the University of Catania, coordinator of Demo 4.1 of the CARDIMED project. The event concluded with awards and a community aperitif accompanied by live music.
